Replacing the crankshaft front seal

The following description applies to motors 1.3 and 1,6 D which have not been removed from the car.

■ Loosen the alternator mounting and remove the V-belt.

■ Remove the toothed belt cover.

■ Adjust the piston by turning the vehicle with the gear engaged 1. cylinder in position ZZ (according to the regulatory signs). Apply the emergency brake. leaving the gear engaged.

■ Dismantle the vacuum pump – applies to the engine 1,6 D.

■ Remove the bolt securing the pulley to the crankshaft, immobilizing the handwheel.

■ Loosen the coolant pump and remove the toothed belt.

■ Slide the belt sprocket off the crankshaft, prying with screwdrivers

■ Screw the sheet metal screw into the seal ring in the previously marked place. Grasping the sheet metal screw with the pliers. remove the seal ring from its seat.

■ Slide the appropriately selected shielding sleeve onto the crankshaft pin. Fill the sealing lip of the new ring with grease and insert the ring through the protective sleeve into the seat, for contact with the oil pump housing.

■ Drive the sealing ring all the way through the appropriate pipe section.

■ Remove the protective sleeve from the crankshaft journal.

■ Proceed in the reverse order to removal.
