The development of lighting in the automotive industry

acetylene reflectorIn years 60. Among the more important achievements of Hella are blue and yellow flashing beacons (1960 r.), rectangular headlamps (1961 r.), halogen lamps (additional – 1962 r.) and the main, passing and road (bi-focus system with two H1 bulbs -1965 r.), electronic turn signal interrupter (1965 r.) and rear fog light (1966 r.). Wiper speed regulator appeared in 1969 r. From 1971 r. computer techniques began to be used in design offices. Further globalization of activities (factories in New Zealand, USA, On Philiphines) it was accompanied by the expansion of social facilities for employees and the modernization of the retail and distribution network. The headlamp with a two-filament H4 type bulb was demonstrated in 1971 r., seat belt failure indicator w 1973 r., electric headlamp adjustment was introduced a year later, w 1976 r. electropneumatic speed controller was presented, w 1979 r. – additional brake lights, and in 1980 r. – engine oil level sensor. For years 80. there is the development of electronic devices, such as the chair position memory module (1982 r.), automatic air conditioning for Porsche cars (1984 r.), ABS system for BMW motorcycles (1988 r., together with FAG) and new design headlamps. These are

Rear fog light, innovation awarded by ADAC (1966 r.) projector headlamps, with halogen bulb, an ellipsoidal reflector, diaphragm and lens (the so-called. FROM, 1983 r., implemented 1986 r. in the BMW series 7) and spotlights with plain lenses, with reflectors composed of many small segments, based on computer calculations, ensuring the proper distribution of the light beam (the so-called. FF, 1988 r.). The company's turnover now exceeds one billion marks (1984 r.). Two years later, the Helia brand becomes one of the full members, the official name of the company (Helia KG Hueck & Co.).

In the early years 90. Helia is hiring 20 thousand. people. Year 1991 he brings a prototype of a headlamp with a gas discharge lamp instead of a light bulb (the so-called. xenon lamp), the serial production of which was launched a year later. The company also contributes to the development of the ASR system (to prevent severing traction when starting and accelerating) for front-wheel drive vehicles (Audi, 1991 r.). In the auxiliary stop lamps from 1992 r. LEDs are used (BMW 3 Convertible in export version), and then also a neon light source. Replacing the glass lampshades of the headlights with lighter glass panes made of plastic (1993 r., Opel Omega) allowed to reduce their weight by 1 kg and provide more room for stylists. From 1993 r. Helia participates in the EUREKA project, working on the so-called. the intelligent AFS headlight system. Year 1995 is the date of obtaining the ISO certificate 9001 and interesting study solutions: central illumination of the vehicle interior using CELIS fiber optics and ACC "intelligent" speed controller (under the PROMETHEUS research program). Cooperation with the Behr company results in the expansion of activities to include refrigeration and air conditioning equipment, which are also joined by complete front mounting modules (from 1991 r.), electric and electronic components for passenger and commercial vehicles and lighting components for airplanes. Recent innovations include. headlamp, DE type, combining the functions of the low beam and the driving beam (1996 r.), functionally similarly integrated xenon lamp (Bi-Xenon, 1997 r.), semiconductor relays (1997 r.), roof module (1997 r.) and accelerator pedal position sensor for E-Gas / Drive-by-Wire systems (1997 r.), automatic beam range regulator (1998 r.) and a defogging sensor for windows (1998 r.).
