Idle adjustment – CARBURETOR (ENGINES 1.2 AND 1.3) – Opel Kadett

Idle adjustment

Before proceeding to adjust the idle speed, the valve clearances should be checked, ignition advance angle, contact angle and spark plug electrode gap. The motor for adjustment must be warm, achieved while driving, not when stationary. Longer engine operation when stationary will also lead to incorrect exhaust gas analysis. The air filter must be installed. The adjusting screws are secured with plastic caps. which must be removed by destroying them. After completing the adjustment, the screws must be secured with new caps

Connect the tachometer and exhaust gas analyzer as described in the manuals for these devices. Measure the idling speed and the concentration of carbon monoxide in the exhaust gas.

If necessary, bring the engine speed to the recommended value by appropriately turning the Additional Mixture Adjustment Screw or the Damper Adjustment Screw. (in the 2E3 carburetor).

The CO concentration is adjusted with the mixture composition adjusting screw. if necessary, reset the idle speed.

If the idle speed cannot be adjusted, the carburetor should be inspected.
