Significant loss of power after the hard acceleration maneuver, the engine goes into emergency operation mode

Symptoms

Significant loss of power after the hard acceleration maneuver, the engine goes into emergency operation mode (constant idle speed), fading fires in certain speed ranges, the fault indicator light is on. The following fault may be stored in the fault memory: "Accelerator pedal position sensor – signal implausible "or similar. After restarting, the engine reaches full power again.

Cause – the electronic accelerator pedal is malfunctioning

The conductive path of the potentiometer wears out with increasing mileage. After all, it is already so significant, that during the sliding of the slider, there are occasional power outages (which means an incredible signal to the driver). In this case, the engine goes into emergency mode and maintains the idle speed at approx. 1500 rpm. After switching the ignition off and on again, the fault is cleared, until the shoe runs over the worn area of the conductive path again.

Troubleshooting and fault elimination

If the fault content stored in the fault memory indicates this, replace the accelerator pedal sensor potentiometer. Perform a noise test with an oscilloscope, because measurements with a DMM may not be enough (inertia of the measuring instrument).
