Replacing the housing or camshaft

To replace the camshaft housing or the camshaft itself, perform the following steps.

■ Remove the cylinder head.

■ Place the removed camshaft housing on two wooden blocks.

■ Unscrew the housing cover.

■ Remove the bolt securing the sprocket to the camshaft. In doing so, the camshaft must be immobilized with a spanner, which is inserted between the cam of the intake valve 3. cylinder and bearing.

■ Remove the bolts securing the distributor drive housing and the fuel pump, remove the cover.

■ Pull the worm gear of the distributor drive off the camshaft.

■ Unscrew the rear housing cover.

■ Unscrew the camshaft retaining plate.

■ Carefully slide the camshaft back out of the housing

■ Place new camshaft housing on wooden blocks.

■ Carefully guide the shaft with the retaining plate into the housing.

■ Attach the retaining plate.

■ Screw on the rear housing cover with the gasket stuck with grease.

■ Screw the housing under the ignition distributor. The oil hole facing the worm wheel must be unobstructed.

■ Push the worm wheel onto the camshaft journal.

■ Install the ignition distributor, as described in the related chapter.

■ Install the fuel pump.

■ Knock the sealing ring into the ignition distributor drive housing

■ Slide the pinion onto the camshaft pin and fasten with the bolt. Tighten the bolt to the torque 45 Nm. immobilizing the shaft with a flat spanner as during disassembly.

■ Place the camshaft housing on the cylinder head, in which the locating sleeves must be placed.
