Idle speed control – INJECTION PUMP (ENGINE 1,6 D) – Opel Kadett

Idle speed control

A special compression-ignition engine tachometer is required to check and set the engine speed, working on the principle of a photocell.

■ On the front edge of the pulley on the crankshaft, make a chalk mark with a width of 1 in chalk…2 Cm

■ Bring the engine to warm-up (oil temperature 50 …70 C).

■ The cold start accelerator cable cannot be pulled out

■ Switch off all electrical consumers (radio, light).

■ Measure idle speed with tachometer.

■ Loosen the jam nut on the pump control lever.

■ By turning the adjusting screw, set idle speed to 825..,875 rpm

■ At the end of the adjustment, tighten the lock nut.

attention! Adjustment of the idle speed must be carried out very carefully.

Regulation of the maximum speed

The maximum idle speed of the engine should be 5600 rpm, with the appropriate tolerance. If the maximum speed is set too high, the engine will be damaged.

Regulation of the rotational speed in this range consists in the following steps.

■ Loosen the lock nut and turn the adjusting screw on the control lever accordingly

■ After adjustment, secure the lock nut with paint or a seal. This prevents the setting from being changed in an uncontrolled manner.
