Clutch repair and maintenance

Clutch repair and maintenance. The service life of the clutch largely depends on its handling. The most common clutch malfunctions occur: slip, vibration when turned on, incomplete shutdown, noisiness, rapid wear of the friction linings.
Clutch slip is very harmful to the friction linings. It occurs when driving uphill, when moving off or increasing the speed of travel. Clutch slippage is most easily detected when starting. For this, the auxiliary brake is applied, one of the higher gears is engaged and the clutch is slowly engaged while gradually depressing the accelerator pedal. If the clutch is in good condition, it should engage strongly causing a stop
engine. Clutch slippage can be the result of many errors, e.g. black tarpaulin oil, too little play in the clutch pedal, weakened or broken pressure springs, lining wear
black etc.. Oily surfaces of the friction plates of the dry clutch may occur due to the leakage of grease from the clutch thrust bearing or from the clutch shaft bearing, less often with oil from the sump through the rear bearing of the crankshaft.
