Fiat Punto Engine 1.3 16In Multijet Diesel

Engine 1.3 16In Multijet. Its variety is particularly interesting 90 KM and 200 Nm. It is already 70 KM per liter of capacity! This was achieved by minor modifications to the intake and exhaust channels, slight reduction in compression ratio (with 18:1 into 17,6:1), hence certainly an increase in boost pressure, and the most important – the use of a BorgWarner turbocharger with variable geometry of the steering wheels. The solution is commonly used in turbo-charged units with high performance – by adjusting the flow of exhaust gases around the turbine rotor to the instantaneous engine load, a significant reduction of the turbo-charging delay after pressing the gas pedal is achieved (that is, after a sudden increase in the fuel dose supplied by the Common Raił system). Actually, Punto with motor 90 KM does not suffer from a pronounced turbo lag when going from a gentle driving mode to a full load. However, although the manufacturer says, that the maximum torque is at 1750 obr./min, subjective feeling indicates, that accelerations increase decisively only from 2000 obr./min. At the same time, the engine reacts very friendly to increasing revolutions, even a lot over 4000 RPM theoretically determining maximum power. Driving a car powered by this engine would resemble driving with a medium-heavy, naturally aspirated fuelless with a capacity of the order of 1,5 dm3, if not for the imperceptible diesel noise.
Judging by the manufacturer's data, engine 1.3 The Multijet should offer diesel consumption from 4 l/100 km (out of town) into 6 l/100 km (in the city). Our test, fully loaded and under changing conditions, he must have been very unfriendly to this individual, because the on-board computer noted 6,5 l/100 km, what – Unfortunately – questions the legitimacy of buying such an equipped car. In fact, a comparison should be made on the same route and under the same conditions of a car with a JTD engine 90 KM i FIRE 95 MILES.
From the beginning of the unit 1.3 Multijet about powers from 75 KM also comes with a diesel particulate filter (soot), reducing their emission to the level corresponding to the exhaust gas purity standard.
The soot filter in the exhaust system also contains a pre-catalyst. The soot is collected here in a purely mechanical manner and the system that measures the pressure of the gases upstream and downstream of the filter determines, when to clean it. This operation only consists of increasing the temperature of the exhaust gases from the standard slightly above 350 ° C to over 600 °C. This is enough to burn off the soot. The Common Rail injection system is responsible for this process, which then supplies an additional final dose of fuel (fifth) in every work cycle. Excess late injection fuel combined with adequate throttle operation and EGR exhaust gas recirculation transfers the combustion process to the exhaust duct and increases the temperature accordingly.
Such action is carried out according to the needs, on average every over a thousand kilometers, and virtually imperceptible to the driver. The only exception is by chance, when the car drives only in the city with low speeds and loads. In this case, contamination of the soot filter is first signaled by the corresponding indicator lamp, and when the driver himself does not load the engine, the system starts emergency cleaning. It consists in a particular selection of the unit's operating parameters, so that the temperature rises to the appropriate value even when stationary. It passes, that the presence of a soot cleaning system increases the average fuel consumption by 1%.
Engine 1.3 The JTD generally has an oil change mileage of 30 thousand. km. However, a system that counts the catalyst heating processes has been added to units with a DPF filter (so the circumstances, when the fuel dose is too high), and also e.g.. situation, when the permissible RPM range is exceeded. Based on this, the system decides more precisely, whether the engine oil needs to be changed. The research have shown, that when driving on the road, the mileage between replacements is even then 50 thousand. km. However, with continuous driving in the city, an oil change may be needed and after 10 thousand. into 15 thousand. km.
