MECHANICAL TRANSMISSION – Opel Kadett

MECHANICAL TRANSMISSION

Boxes installed in Opel Kadett cars 4- and 5 the gears have fully synchronized forward gears and are locked in one housing with the main gear and differential. The boxes are double-roller with a main shaft, which is housed inside the hollow gear train, and from the drive shaft, on which the gears are directly mounted. The gear and gear wheels are lubricated with oil splashed from a common sump.

Gears, Gear shift components and the main gear can be replaced without dismantling the gearbox. It is not necessary to remove the engine to remove the gearbox. In addition, the main gear can be removed separately.

The following repair descriptions are for a 4-speed gearbox, however, they also apply to some extent to the chest 5 running gear.
